Services & Fees
Full homebirth care involves all prenatal visits, labor, birth, the newborn exam, and all postpartum visits. Monthly prenatal visits are offered through the second trimester, bi-weekly from 26-36 weeks, then weekly until birth, including one
home visit at approximately 37 weeks. Prenatal visits offered in two locations—Merriam and Leavenworth—are leisurely and
fun with lots of time for you to have your questions answered thoroughly and to fellowship with your family to develop a relationship
with understanding of your needs. Well-behaved children and nursing babies are always welcome; large families are embraced and
may stay with you during your prenatal or enjoy the play room or the large fenced backyard (Leavenworth location; supervision by an
adult or responsible teen is required). A thorough, unhurried newborn exam is performed postpartum, a 24-hour phone visit and
3 day postpartum visit, with another postpartum check at 7 days if necessary.
Money should never stand
in the way of receiving quality homebirth care. You deserve to obtain the services of the midwife that is the right fit for
your family, regardless of ability to pay. The full fee is $2,000.00, but numerous discounts, catered payment plans, barter
and trade may be available. Some private insurance reimbursement may be available; check with your insurance company for midwifery
compensation. Fees do not include optional lab work or sonogram, physician and/or certified nurse-midwife consultation,
outside medical care, your birth kit or birth tub rental. Northeast Kansas Homebirth Service does have two birth pools that
may be used for waterbirth that are included in the fee.
Prenatal care and consultation for those families seeking informed unassisted
childbirth may be available for $150 per prenatal. Doula service in the hospital and professional childbirth education from
a certified Bradley educator are available from Amber Walla, Northeast Kansas Homebirth Service’s midwifery assistant and student
midwife.
